~S~ All....As some of you may have heard....my PC has crashed and I am unable to get it to bootup. At present, it is in pieces as I test various parts. My hopes are not high for a quick recovery. Things seem to be pointing to my Motherboard. I am able to stay in touch thanks to my PC at work. However, my flight status is grounded for the foreseeable future. You will have to work together to keep things going. I'll keep you all advised as things progress. Blue skies and a clear six!.....~S~MM

~S~ Smilo...that's okay...I'll track down a replacement and fix it right the first time. I found a place in California...$149 for the board. I'd like to get at least a few more years out of this machine. Thank you for the kind offer, my friend!

~S~....Bat21....Bat21...Do you read?...Over.... Well gents...I am still grounded at the moment....it appears that I am going to need a new MoBo.....any spare change would be welcomed....LOL! I don't have much experience in rebuilding a machine...but I think that I can pull it off. I've got to scrape some cash together as my PC repair does not rank highly on my wife's priority list....especially with Winter (there go my heating bills) and the holidays rapidly approaching. On top of everything else, I am currently buried at work due to circumstances beyond my control. Be patient with me...I'll be back hopefully within a month's time....barring any major explosions! Enjoy flying against eachother...keep me posted on the latest news.....until the next time we meet.....~S~....MM

~S~ Minuteman, read your post and saw where you said not much experience rebuilding.......................biggest issue will be to make sure you are careful with static electricity. Can really mess things up. Try to make it a practice to ground yourself out to the pc case or something other than the internal pc parts. I speak from experience. Good Luck ~S~ Dodge

excellent advice! I usually just grab the case. Is that enough or is there a better way?

just grabbing the case is fine ........avoid contact with video cards memory sticks and such until you have grounded your self out. With the weather getting colder there is an increase in static electricity so beware. ~S~

~S~ All...I'm glad to see everyone is still at it despite some technical glitches! My schedule is finally calming down to its normal pace so I can catch up with some things. I've decided to go with an Asus MoBo...but it appears that I'll have to invest in some new upgraded memory to be compatible. I'm trying to pick up a few nights a week as an exotic dancer to cover the bill! I miss the flying...but even more, I miss talking to you fellows. You don't realize how much of your life revolves around a computer until it stops working! Keep at it and help each other out....until we meet again....~S~...MM

~S~ Guys....I am trying to learn about MoBo's before I dive into this repair. I find that my board is uBTX...an uncommon board used primarily by Gateway. They may have me cornered here. As much as I hate to throw any more money their way, I may have little choice. My tower would not even be compatible with an ATX board. So, it is go with the direct replacement or face an almost total rebuild! The more that I learn, the angrier I get with Gateway. I recommend that you go elsewhere should you be looking for a PC. I hear that ACER bought Gateway and may be phasing it out...what goes around, comes around!
